Skied in Kop Feb 08. Good for beginners a bit
limited for intermediates, runs too short queues
too long. There are issues with the piste maps but
you can navigate your way around, huts are NOT
marked.Stayed in Hotel Grand, food not very good, a
bit canteen like and some strange dishes..cold
boiled cabbage for breakfast. The real problem is
however,if you are a non smoker, all bars and
mountain huts are full of people smoking,as all
the locals smoke, so if that is an issue I would
give this resort a miss. Snow conditions for the week were very good, slopes well maintained.Good skiing to Hotel door.Mixed reaction from the Serb locals to British skiers, some friendly but some comments re Balkan war and Nato involvement etc.Crystal reps very good.Would I go back- No |

We went to Kop at the end of January 2007 and had
a great time. It is very beautiful skiing amongst
the trees. There was about 65km of marked piste
but there was lots of new lifts going up for
2007/2008 and new runs opening over on the Kosovo
side of the mountain. There are plenty of bars, restaurants etc... and very reasonably priced. The supermarket by the Konaci Hotel was selling good quality lager for £1.11 for a 2L bottle. We stayed at and hung out at Hotel Grand as the beer and food were good after an enjoyable day on the slopes. If you want ski lessons ask for Radule at the ski hire shop in the Grand. We were all none skiers at the beginning of the week but after his lessons we were paralling down blacks. It is a great place to learn or to have a refresher as it only cost 20euros and hour for 2 people. |

Arrived on 10/03/2007, very tired having travelled
for a day by car, train, plane and bus. Once settled into the resort and rooms, we went for a well deserved sleep, looking forward to our day's skiing. We were in the Konaci apartments, the accomadation is adequate, if a bit tired and in need of refurbishment and the buffet restaraunt was OK, but maybe not enough choice for some fussy children. The walk to the ski area from the apartments was quite tiring. Especially the uphill section, where I had to tow two children along plus all my gear. The slopes were very good and pisted well. Unfortunately it did not snow whilst out there, however the piste was kept as well as it could be for the week and we all enjoyed our time there. We were all in ski school and the instructors were great. Mine was a bit limited in his English, which was much better than my Serbian, but he was good instructor and nice guy. The children really liked their instructor and within one week she had them skiing confidently down the big blue runs. All in all, a great well run resort which I would love to visit again, though I will probably stay at the Grand, as I detest walking. To anybody who reads this and recognises me (Dragan's class of Elite Skiiers) and would like to get in touch my email is on the members list. Colin. |

What a lovely place Kopaonik is. My husband & I went as beginner skiers, which was one of the reasons we chose to go to Kopaonik as for beginner skiers it has a great choice of slopes. On our first day (Monday) there unfortunately I had someone crash into my knees which left me hardly being able to walk let alone ski! I managed to get 1 full day’s worth of skiing on the Wednesday of our holiday, at the end of this day I thought I’d give slope no7 a go! The trip up to the top via the chair lift was awesome, the trip down did not go so well! (fell 5 times ended up walking 2/3 down the slope!) My husband however did not have that same misfortune & proceeded to do very well with skiing, with being able to complete no7 slope on his first day. On his last day he was able to parallel turn! (the cocky git!). The restaurants are not as cheap as stated in the brochure. As the in the brochure it stated a 3 course meal was about £8.00 what utter rubbish! The price of an average meal was about 600-1000 dinar which is about £5.00-£8.50 for 1 course. In our group my husband & I do not drink alcohol so we were drinking soft drinks for the week a small bottle of coke, sprite, fanta etc cost around 160 dinar (£1.35) some place though were charging this amount for cans! The restaurant that I would recommend to anyone is to go to the Bombardier which is located at the bottom of the slope by the ski-do’s, great steak! The staff who work in there are very friendly, on a couple of occasions we received free drinks & cake from them. This brings me on to the negative part of our holiday. In the Hotel Grand there is a garden restaurant which it is difficult to get served in, at one point there was only us in the restaurant & even after calling the waiter over (after a 15 minute wait) we were told he’d be with us in just a minute. At times it took 30 minutes to get served even though there were only a couple more people in there. Also the café by the quad bike is to be avoided we went in there once and that was enough, the waiter walked away half way through taking are order & then seemed to be annoyed when we asked him to come back & finish our order. If Kopaonik wish to become a great resort they have a few problems to sort out! As neither of us had been skiing before we went unbiased having no prior knowledge to what other resorts are like!! |

What a fabulous place kopaonik is, we had such a
wonderful time. However if we hadn't taken ear plugs our holiday would have been awful. We stayed in Konaci apartments and although done to very good standards it is surrounded by clubs and bars and despite them being empty the management insist on playing very very loud music until 4.00am! We will be going back to as we felt it was the perfect skiing holiday for us but next time we'll stay in club A or the Grand Helen |

A group of 4 of us headed out to Kopaonik on 4th
Feb 2007 for some snowboarding fun. 2 of us had been the previous year, and the other 2 had never been snowboarding before. When we arrived at Kop it was snowing, and we were all really looking forwards to strapping on our boards and throwing ourselves down the mountain! After our welcome meeting, we went straight to the board hire shop in Konaci and picked up our gear, and headed straight for the slope, so the 2 who had never snowboardered could get some practice in before the next day. We stayed in Zvecan in Konaci, it was basic but comfortable, and the room was quiet with a view of the ice rink. The following 2 days were great as the sun was out and the conditions were excellent. It was just a shame that the last 4 days were really foggy, but we still made the most of it, and the 2 who had never snowboarded had really improved by the end of the week. It also snowed on our final full day, so fresh powder was everywhere, which was really good fun. We all had an excellent week at Kop, we even saw ourselves on KopTV a few times! We didn't have a chance to sample the nightlife as we were all so tired after a full days snowboarding! We would recommend going to Kopaonik, and there were lots of different runs to keep us busy. |

Well we all made it home safely then!!! (4-11
feb) What an excellent time, we were all shattered once we got home last night. Didn't help that teenage daughter had had a party while we were away and the police were called!!!! Fortunately my parents only live around the corner and came to sort it all out. Anyway back to our holiday. The snow was amazing I couldn't believe how much snow we had. If anyone is going out next week and you're staying in Konaci take your ear plugs the noise from the clubs in unbearable. Fortunately our son was asleep before it started each night and slept through most of it. Peter and Jonathon's ski instructors were amazing and if anyone gets Katarina or Ivana say hi from us. I still can't believe that the boys managed to ski not only down 7 but 3, 8, 10 and 12. Buttercup it was a pleasure to meet both of you sorry we didn't get to say bye at Gatwick. We're going back next year and have already requested the brochure, although will be staying at the Grand or Club A next time. Helen |

(28th Jan - 3th feb) Still recovering from a fantastic week in Kop! Hi to all those I met from here, hope ya all got home safe on Sunday! This was our second ski holiday, last year we were in Borovets, so all comparisons are with that resort! Journey Flight out was slightly delayed, but we made up time and arrived in NIS slightly early. Prepare yourself for a 'tiny' airport - small but very efficient! Plenty of time to grab a drink, use loo, change money etc before jumping on coach for the ride to Kop. Tip - dont bother queuing up to change into Dinar - just use the cash machine! Especially if your bank doesn't change for using ATM when abroad! Konaci Apartments After 2 and half hour jouney arrived at snow-covered resort. Piled off coaches, grabbed various suitcases, boot-bags, skis etc and trudged thru snow to reception. Met by staff with a choice of Hot Wine or Hot Rakija which was very welcome! Seemed to be very quick check-in process (no deposits needed, they do need your passport tho) and off to find room. The room we had was small, but comfortable and warm. The shower had plenty of hot water and loads of towels, and the beds had extra blankets and pillows in wardrobe if needed. The 'self catering' option would be a struggle, only one big electric ring, one small ring plus a microwave and fridge. Once we had dumped our bags it was down to reception for a meeting where lift passes where handed out, and directions to Ski Depot given. Sorting this out on the evening before is a much better idea than doing it on the morning ski-school starts! The equipment looked to be good quality (not as tatty as Borovets), and the guys and girls in Elite were very good at sorting everyone out. Once you have your gear dump it into your locker - these are found in the basement of your apartment block. We just left skis/poles there (boots kept in room to dry out each night!) Food We were half-board, so we wandered round and found the 'Sunce' restaurant and the wonders within! We weren't too sure what to expect after reading some reports, but the food was 'ok'. Nothing special, but plenty of choice. Always 2 soups plus bread, good choice of meat - the casserole always tasted great! Plenty of recognisable veg - peas, carrots, potatoes, sprouts! Plus the usual salady type things you expect from East-Europe. Good choice of puddings, and fresh fruit as well, very hard to not find something to eat. Ski-school Nine o'clock the next morning, everyone assembles on the big square at the back of the Grand to be put into classes according to ability - beginner, intermediate, advanced and 'boarders. We weren't too sure so stood in between beginner and intermediate - with a few others who had also just done 1 week. We met Alex our instructor who took us up a baby-button to test our ability, and we just practised gentle turns for the first day - re-learning all the stuff we had forgotten since last year! It was a slow, but steady start - giving us all confidence to tackle harder slopes throughout the week. We skied so many different slopes during the week, Alex had us up and down so many lifts and runs it was always a shock when we appeared at the bottom of a lift we recognised!! The conditions were great - we had it all, bright sun, heavy blizzards, thick, thick fog.. We skied on deep powder, compacted pistes, icy patches, bits where grass showed through - the variation made it always challenging! Lessons are four hours. We were 9am till 1pm, and usually stopped about 12ish for 30 mins rest in a slopeside bar (more hot wine). After 1, the afternoon is yours - you can ski on till 4 when the lifts close if you want! Aprs Ski The courtyard at Konaci has a good few bars, a couple of supermarkets and some ski-wear shops. Drink the local beer, MB or Lav and dont expect to get 'diet' drinks in the bars - they dont exist! The bars are never very busy (apart from on Bar Crowl night). Some of the bars/clubs are open till 4, and the music can be heard in some rooms, but we were so shattered it never disturbed us! The ski-wear wasn't cheap (well, it was all top Brand stuff so might have been if you compared like for like to UK prices - but I am still a 'Decathlon' lever skier!!) Try the ski-doo driving!! Its not cheap at 60 per ski-doo, but split between 2, thats about 20 a head and you get 45 mins of great fun! Recommended places - Bar Cuba, just for the weirdest mix of music EVER! Also Exit was good. Try Red Bull bar for pizza and pancakes! We had lunch out every day - and never had a bad meal. Try the hot chocolate, it tastes like a chocolate bar melted into a mug - none of your 'Options' rubbish! Try hot wine AND hot Rakija - not in same glass! Take Euro's to pay for your trips, and there are 2 ATM in Konaci, and another in the Grand (I think) for Dinar, so no need to worry about planning your spend. Anything you have left over, spend or change at airport on way back. We had a great week - would definitely go back! Any major grumbles? None really - I guess we were lucky with the snow, which helps! And everyone we met seemed to be just there to have a good time... |
