Skied serbia feb 08

Serbia is an interesting destination if you want something not quite the norm.
The best way to try and evaluate serbia is the good and the bad for me. so here it it

The bad first.
Signs for the runs are complete rubbish, they are few and far between valuable ski time wasted trying to work out which run is which, there is no excuse for this and it is dangerous for beginners too.
Food on the mountains difficult to find and if you are lucky enough to find it its a rip off.
nightlife, almost non existent.
lastly the worst point is the serbs themselves, they are lazy and rude nature if you ask them for something you always feel you are putting them out and you are lucky if they reply to you, we made a phrase, Do not disturb a serb. This point is why Serbia will never be as popular as other Euro resports and is a problem for them.
Good , Great for kids lots of begininers training aids and easy slopes, and lots of kids!
Lots of snow,
Beautifull location.
Cheap supermarkets.
Good lifts
eighties music played everywhere, i liked it !
Not many English, Its good to get away.
Great food in the grand.
Serbia is very much like the uk in the eighties, funny clothes everywhere and so many rules, its very refreshing. They do smoke in bars but not so long ago everyone in the UK did too.
I personally loved it i found the serbs attitude funny and the lack of signs a challenge, but in reality this is what will hold the resort back from being very popular and sucessfull in the long term..

Skied in Kop Feb 08. Good for beginners a bit limited for intermediates, runs too short queues too long. There are issues with the piste maps but you can navigate your way around, huts are NOT marked.Stayed in Hotel Grand, food not very good, a bit canteen like and some strange dishes..cold boiled cabbage for breakfast. The real problem is however,if you are a non smoker, all bars and mountain huts are full of people smoking,as all the locals smoke, so if that is an issue I would give this resort a miss.
Snow conditions for the week were very good, slopes well maintained.Good skiing to Hotel door.Mixed reaction from the Serb locals to British skiers, some friendly but some comments re Balkan war and Nato involvement etc.Crystal reps very good.Would I go back- No

29.12.07-5.1.08. Found the 07 impressions really useful in trying to pre-evaluate Kop. Crystal Catalogue & london staff not over helpful/informed. For those considering KOP most of the comments are still fair.

We ( and another famiy ) stayed at VILLA NIKOLA which is pretty good- certainly for the money. It's only a few years old, with comfortable beds( clean sheets & towels mid week ! ) though minimally furnished rooms ( self catering there borders on camping style... challenging with only a 2 ring burner , fridge and the barest of equipment - but it's do able). Generally it's a high quality quasi apartment hotel with a free ( though you have to book )Sauna, plunge pool and mini gym. Good - though slightly cold ( atmosphere wise ) restaurant, very friendly staff. Ski-able to the door once we had worked out how to do it. All on a level with Konaci approx 5 mins walk- and about the same to the 7 lift- up behind Nikola to the road that leads directly past the Grand ( where you can check which lifts are open & get Dinars from the ATM )to the 7 lift- Ski school area by the Dolly Cafe.

Great snow brings out the best in a resort and our week had fab powder- though we needed the mid week dump as there were some icy worn patches - in particular the track down from 14 was nasty. If we had a gripe it was the amount of loose rock that pisteurs in other resorts seem to clear away.

Can't say any great evidence of a master mind organising KOP. As others have noted the Piste Map and piste top signs & markers are poor and so one wastes precious skiing time not getting the best out of the resort. The area at the top of 8 & 19 is plain daft with 19's horrible drag ending short by 50 metres of the top for no apparent reason!

Biggest gripe... FOOD ( not so much the quality which was strange but usually good ) rather the difficulty of getting it on the slopes! We had youngish kids/teens ( 11>15 ) but who could ski well. The charming tiny mountain huts with their atmospheric log fires and delicious hot wine... were great for a couple of adults but they were usually completely full and we never managed to get QUICK & to be honest child friendly food out of them... At -16 for 2 days we needed somewhere warm & predictable to meet up & pit stop.. Kop doesn't seem to have any normal self service style restaurant on the top as most resorts do... you can't just grab a tray fill it with soup & frites and get everyone sorted quickly. The first meal we ordered in the beautiful HuH ( mid 7) took an HOUR yes ONE WHOLE fraught HOUR to get get a selection of pretty simple things! I like KOP and accept that when in Serbia do as the Serbs do... but ask my children now whether we should go back and it's the food hassles and the really really basic mountain loos that have coloured their view!

( One day it would be fab to find a super, smoke free... restaurant with proper facilities on the top of 4 & 6 with views down over the resort and into the beautiful cloud filled valleys.... an improbably smoke free pipe dream maybe... but Kop is already too big to be reliant on just the quaint cosy cafe's ( or having to return to the resort for lunch ) if they want to expand, attract and keep keen skiers.... Discuss!)

Having said that.. maybe we never found the right places to go ( as they are not marked on the piste ' map ' !) - and no doubt other people like things just as they are, but that's our opinion and between us we'd ski'ed in over 12 other resorts/countries with families and just wished KOP was a bit better organised!

All in all. If you are a good ski'er Kop is a bit limited- as there only seemed to be a few runs ( 6, what we called the 'golf ball' run ( in parts ) 18 & 19 that are genuinely black, but for most ordinary intermediates it's a fun experience- with lots of easy burns eg 1 & 2, 4 7 & 8 and not too many poms or drags. The Crystal reps were the best we've come across- though not convinced about the Ski hire equipment from Crystal ( just ok ). If you want your kids to have helmets - take your own as these aren't common there- and they are expensive to
buy in the resort.

Anyway we went to Kop slightly worried about Kosovo getting stressy a few miles away...but the only explosions were the crazy barrage of New Year Fireworks.., slightly worried about Serbian attitudes to us Brits- but they very friendly ( bar one man who took it upon himself to hassle us on a chair lift about the WEST ( NATO )ruining Kop with cluster bombs!).

If you are pondering about going and don't mind being teazed by your friends about the unusual choice.... give it a go, because we certainly don't regret the experience!

We went to Kop at the end of January 2007 and had a great time. It is very beautiful skiing amongst the trees. There was about 65km of marked piste but there was lots of new lifts going up for 2007/2008 and new runs opening over on the Kosovo side of the mountain.
There are plenty of bars, restaurants etc... and very reasonably priced. The supermarket by the Konaci Hotel was selling good quality lager for £1.11 for a 2L bottle. We stayed at and hung out at Hotel Grand as the beer and food were good after an enjoyable day on the slopes. If you want ski lessons ask for Radule at the ski hire shop in the Grand. We were all none skiers at the beginning of the week but after his lessons we were paralling down blacks. It is a great place to learn or to have a refresher as it only cost 20euros and hour for 2 people.

Arrived on 10/03/2007, very tired having travelled for a day by car, train, plane and bus.
Once settled into the resort and rooms, we went for a well deserved sleep, looking forward to our day's skiing.
We were in the Konaci apartments, the accomadation is adequate, if a bit tired and in need of refurbishment and the buffet restaraunt was OK, but maybe not enough choice for some fussy children.
The walk to the ski area from the apartments was quite tiring. Especially the uphill section, where I had to tow two children along plus all my gear.
The slopes were very good and pisted well. Unfortunately it did not snow whilst out there, however the piste was kept as well as it could be for the week and we all enjoyed our time there.
We were all in ski school and the instructors were great. Mine was a bit limited in his English, which was much better than my Serbian, but he was good instructor and nice guy.
The children really liked their instructor and within one week she had them skiing confidently down the big blue runs.
All in all, a great well run resort which I would love to visit again, though I will probably stay at the Grand, as I detest walking.
To anybody who reads this and recognises me (Dragan's class of Elite Skiiers) and would like to get in touch my email is on the members list.

What a lovely place Kopaonik is.
My husband & I went as beginner skiers, which was one of the reasons we chose to go to Kopaonik as for beginner skiers it has a great choice of slopes.
On our first day (Monday) there unfortunately I had someone crash into my knees which left me hardly being able to walk let alone ski! I managed to get 1 full day’s worth of skiing on the Wednesday of our holiday, at the end of this day I thought I’d give slope no7 a go! The trip up to the top via the chair lift was awesome, the trip down did not go so well! (fell 5 times ended up walking 2/3 down the slope!)
My husband however did not have that same misfortune & proceeded to do very well with skiing, with being able to complete no7 slope on his first day. On his last day he was able to parallel turn! (the cocky git!).

The restaurants are not as cheap as stated in the brochure. As the in the brochure it stated a 3 course meal was about £8.00 what utter rubbish! The price of an average meal was about 600-1000 dinar which is about £5.00-£8.50 for 1 course. In our group my husband & I do not drink alcohol so we were drinking soft drinks for the week a small bottle of coke, sprite, fanta etc cost around 160 dinar (£1.35) some place though were charging this amount for cans!
The restaurant that I would recommend to anyone is to go to the Bombardier which is located at the bottom of the slope by the ski-do’s, great steak! The staff who work in there are very friendly, on a couple of occasions we received free drinks & cake from them.

This brings me on to the negative part of our holiday.
In the Hotel Grand there is a garden restaurant which it is difficult to get served in, at one point there was only us in the restaurant & even after calling the waiter over (after a 15 minute wait) we were told he’d be with us in just a minute. At times it took 30 minutes to get served even though there were only a couple more people in there.
Also the café by the quad bike is to be avoided we went in there once and that was enough, the waiter walked away half way through taking are order & then seemed to be annoyed when we asked him to come back & finish our order.

If Kopaonik wish to become a great resort they have a few problems to sort out!
As neither of us had been skiing before we went unbiased having no prior knowledge to what other resorts are like!!

What a fabulous place kopaonik is, we had such a wonderful time.

However if we hadn't taken ear plugs our holiday would have been awful.

We stayed in Konaci apartments and although done to very good standards it is surrounded by clubs and bars and despite them being empty the management insist on playing very very loud music until 4.00am!

We will be going back to as we felt it was the perfect skiing holiday for us but next time we'll stay in club A or the Grand

A group of 4 of us headed out to Kopaonik on 4th Feb 2007 for some snowboarding fun.

2 of us had been the previous year, and the other 2 had never been snowboarding before.

When we arrived at Kop it was snowing, and we were all really looking forwards to strapping on our boards and throwing ourselves down the mountain!

After our welcome meeting, we went straight to the board hire shop in Konaci and picked up our gear, and headed straight for the slope, so the 2 who had never snowboardered could get some practice in before the next day.

We stayed in Zvecan in Konaci, it was basic but comfortable, and the room was quiet with a view of the ice rink.

The following 2 days were great as the sun was out and the conditions were excellent. It was just a shame that the last 4 days were really foggy, but we still made the most of it, and the 2 who had never snowboarded had really improved by the end of the week. It also snowed on our final full day, so fresh powder was everywhere, which was really good fun.

We all had an excellent week at Kop, we even saw ourselves on KopTV a few times!

We didn't have a chance to sample the nightlife as we were all so tired after a full days snowboarding!

We would recommend going to Kopaonik, and there were lots of different runs to keep us busy.

Well we all made it home safely then!!! (4-11 feb)

What an excellent time, we were all shattered once we got home last night. Didn't help that teenage daughter had had a party while we were away and the police were called!!!! Fortunately my parents only live around the corner and came to sort it all out.

Anyway back to our holiday.

The snow was amazing I couldn't believe how much snow we had.

If anyone is going out next week and you're staying in Konaci take your ear plugs the noise from the clubs in unbearable. Fortunately our son was asleep before it started each night and slept through most of it.

Peter and Jonathon's ski instructors were amazing and if anyone gets Katarina or Ivana say hi from us.

I still can't believe that the boys managed to ski not only down 7 but 3, 8, 10 and 12.

Buttercup it was a pleasure to meet both of you sorry we didn't get to say bye at Gatwick.

We're going back next year and have already requested the brochure, although will be staying at the Grand or Club A next time.

Still recovering from a fantastic week in Kop! Hi to all those I met from here, hope ya all got home safe on Sunday!

This was our second ski holiday, last year we were in Borovets, so all comparisons are with that resort!

Journey
Flight out was slightly delayed, but we made up time and arrived in NIS slightly early. Prepare yourself for a 'tiny' airport - small but very efficient! Plenty of time to grab a drink, use loo, change money etc before jumping on coach for the ride to Kop. Tip - dont bother queuing up to change £ into Dinar - just use the cash machine! Especially if your bank doesn't change for using ATM when abroad!

Konaci Apartments
After 2 and half hour jouney arrived at snow-covered resort. Piled off coaches, grabbed various suitcases, boot-bags, skis etc and trudged thru snow to reception. Met by staff with a choice of Hot Wine or Hot Rakija which was very welcome! Seemed to be very quick check-in process (no deposits needed, they do need your passport tho) and off to find room. The room we had was small, but comfortable and warm. The shower had plenty of hot water and loads of towels, and the beds had extra blankets and pillows in wardrobe if needed. The 'self catering' option would be a struggle, only one big electric ring, one small ring plus a microwave and fridge.
Once we had dumped our bags it was down to reception for a meeting where lift passes where handed out, and directions to Ski Depot given. Sorting this out on the evening before is a much better idea than doing it on the morning ski-school starts! The equipment looked to be good quality (not as tatty as Borovets), and the guys and girls in Elite were very good at sorting everyone out. Once you have your gear dump it into your locker - these are found in the basement of your apartment block. We just left skis/poles there (boots kept in room to dry out each night!)

Food
We were half-board, so we wandered round and found the 'Sunce' restaurant and the wonders within! We weren't too sure what to expect after reading some reports, but the food was 'ok'. Nothing special, but plenty of choice. Always 2 soups plus bread, good choice of meat - the casserole always tasted great! Plenty of recognisable veg - peas, carrots, potatoes, sprouts! Plus the usual salady type things you expect from East-Europe. Good choice of puddings, and fresh fruit as well, very hard to not find something to eat.

Ski-school
Nine o'clock the next morning, everyone assembles on the big square at the back of the Grand to be put into classes according to ability - beginner, intermediate, advanced and 'boarders. We weren't too sure so stood in between beginner and intermediate - with a few others who had also just done 1 week. We met Alex our instructor who took us up a baby-button to test our ability, and we just practised gentle turns for the first day - re-learning all the stuff we had forgotten since last year! It was a slow, but steady start - giving us all confidence to tackle harder slopes throughout the week. We skied so many different slopes during the week, Alex had us up and down so many lifts and runs it was always a shock when we appeared at the bottom of a lift we recognised!! The conditions were great - we had it all, bright sun, heavy blizzards, thick, thick fog.. We skied on deep powder, compacted pistes, icy patches, bits where grass showed through - the variation made it always challenging!
Lessons are four hours. We were 9am till 1pm, and usually stopped about 12ish for 30 mins rest in a slopeside bar (more hot wine). After 1, the afternoon is yours - you can ski on till 4 when the lifts close if you want!

Aprés Ski
The courtyard at Konaci has a good few bars, a couple of supermarkets and some ski-wear shops. Drink the local beer, MB or Lav and dont expect to get 'diet' drinks in the bars - they dont exist! The bars are never very busy (apart from on Bar Crowl night). Some of the bars/clubs are open till 4, and the music can be heard in some rooms, but we were so shattered it never disturbed us! The ski-wear wasn't cheap (well, it was all top Brand stuff so might have been if you compared like for like to UK prices - but I am still a 'Decathlon' lever skier!!)
Try the ski-doo driving!! Its not cheap at €60 per ski-doo, but split between 2, thats about £20 a head and you get 45 mins of great fun! Recommended places - Bar Cuba, just for the weirdest mix of music EVER! Also Exit was good. Try Red Bull bar for pizza and pancakes! We had lunch out every day - and never had a bad meal. Try the hot chocolate, it tastes like a chocolate bar melted into a mug - none of your 'Options' rubbish! Try hot wine AND hot Rakija - not in same glass!
Take Euro's to pay for your trips, and there are 2 ATM in Konaci, and another in the Grand (I think) for Dinar, so no need to worry about planning your spend. Anything you have left over, spend or change at airport on way back.

We had a great week - would definitely go back! Any major grumbles? None really - I guess we were lucky with the snow, which helps! And everyone we met seemed to be just there to have a good time...

Superb!! Hvala Kopaonik

We stayed at the Hotel Grand. The room was a good size and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. All of the staff at the Grand were really friendly and made a special effort for our son (17 months). Thank you to Leanne in the restaurant who made sure Harry's milk was warmed and gave him extra yoghurt and fruit. The food was plentiful and typically Serbian as you would expect in Serbia. Those English that want English food should stay at home!!
We travelled with Crystal. Our rep Dejan was always smiling and of great help if needed.
The biggest thanks goes to RADULE our private ski instructor. If you are beginning or want to improve dramatically Radule is the man for you(ask for him at Service Ski in the Grand). Private lessons are 21Euro per hour for 1 person or 26Euro per hour for 2 people. Not a lot of money very well spent.
The resort of Kopaonik is very beautiful especially on a sunny day when you can see right to Montenegro.
The only slightly negative point would be the piste map (come on reps please sort this out for your customers).

Can't wait to return Feb 08!

As this was my family's first skiing trip we decided to choose a low-cost option, and Kop seemed to fit the bill perfectly. We travelled with Thompson. Overall, I was impressed by the whole experience and would not hesitate to go there again. I think there are a few things that could be improved though.

Travel: 2.5 hour flight from Gatwick to Nis (the smallest airport terminal I've ever seen!), followed by a scenic 2.5 hour transfer by coach. Good journey overall. On arrival the coach stopped about 200 yds from our accommodation so we had to lug the cases a through the snow.

Ski area: Plenty big enough to keep us occupied all week, but most of the runs are fairly short and the ski area is a bit disjointed. The network of runs leading down from lifts 7, 8 and 9 are a great area for beginners, and there are some good quiet runs on the far side of the main area. There are lots of places where you need to trek across the mountain to get from the top of one run to another. The signage on the mountain is poor in places, for example if you arrive at the top of the main chairlift (no. 4) in poor visibility there are no signs to guide you to the pistes, which can be a bit scary. The snow conditions were great all week and the pistes were generally well groomed, apart from the exposed areas at the peaks where the wind constantly blew the snow away.

Piste map: definitely room for improvement here! The piste maps supplied by the rep were not very good at all. Some runs and lifts were marked incorrectly on the map, and a lot of detail is missing (e.g. the links between certain pistes). The Thompson/Crystal reps were well aware of this, and could surely produce their own maps for their clients.

Accommodation: we stayed in the Konaci appartments on a self-catering basis. In a central location with everything right on the doorstep. The apartment was too hot and there was no way to turn the radiator off. Every night we had to endure the noise from the disco until 2:00am despite specifically requesting a room in a quiet area from the Thompson pre-booking service. The lift serving our block broke down every day. The room was a reasonable size and adequately furnished, though it needed a bit of attention (partly-blocked sinks, cupboard doors hanging off). If possible I would recommend getting a room on the outside of the building, i.e. facing away from the noisy central square.

Eating: we chose to eat out each night, and found a variety of restaurants in the village serving decent food at reasonable prices (though not quite as cheap as I was expecting). The average price seemed to be about £10 per head for a main course, e.g. pasta or a local speciality, and a couple of drinks. I would recommend the following:
Trattoria Kosava
Koala
Planinska Kuca - the best in my opinion
Grand Hotel

Some of the mountain restaurants are also open in the evenings and they are well worth a visit for the more adventurous, e.g. the one on the left side of the night slope as you walk up it (sorry I can't remember the name).

This may sound like a lot of negatives, but as I said at the start we did have a great time and I would not hesitate to go back there. I think I would chose different accommodation though.

(21-28th Jan)
Well I survived my 1st ever ski trip and even the FOUR HOURS we spent sitting on a broken down coach just outside Kop on the way back to Nis airport!!

Would I go again?? Yes!

Weather
--------
I think we saw every kind going with rather too much fog! The snow cover was dodgy at the start but midweek there was a good fall and following that there was one beautiful sunny day and then more fog. The temp went gently down to about -4/5 but on our last morning it was -15.

Lessons
-------
I am probably the most nervous middle-aged beginner ever known, but I managed to get confidence on the button lift and did Blue run 7 four times, even if I did need to be talked down a bit of it and only fell down once in the whole week!! This was all thanks to my superb instructor Sara who I would recommend to anyone.

I didn't book into a group because the only option was 4 hours a day which I knew would be too much for me to begin with and I also felt I would be likely to hold the group back and be unable to keep up. I therefore booked 1:1 sessions and was able to decide on a day-to-day basis if I wanted 1 or 2 hours. Both Sara and the Thomson rep were fantastic about it and so flexible. The cost was 21 Euros per hour for 1:1 and you could pay in sterling, Dinars, Euros or with credit cards - very reasonable compared with prices in the indoor Snow-dome I visited near Leeds.

Arrival/Departure
----------------
Having paid to stay at the Grand (4*), I wasn't very impressed with being dumped on the road that the webcam overlooks and being expected to find our own way, with luggage, up a quite steep and very icy hill. I nearly fell several times and it was not a pleasant start for me. I told the rep I was very concerned about this and he said he would ensure there was help going back. On leaving, we were delighted to see a coach outside the Grand. However it was not ours - it was Coach no 1 and most of those who stayed at the Grand were allocated to it. We were to go on Coach 3 which served Konaci/Club A, and the best they could offer was to take our cases down the hill in a truck and we had to walk down. I do think they ought to pay more attention to the needs of older visitors, especially first-timers.

Ski Hire
-------
Last year Thomson/Crystal had this arranged in the Grand; this year it was in the Konaci appts which is quite a walk downhill - fine for all you agile youngsters, but we got lost on the way down there as I couldn't keep up, being scared of slipping over before I even got on my skis!!

Local Facilities
-------------
These are pretty basic as it is a small resort - don't expect to go home souvenir-laden, but on the other hand it is a delight to go somewhere that is not over-comercialised. One thing I wanted was to get a ski t-shirt but there were none to be found.

Many people now speak enough English for the visitors' needs, but we found it was helpful to have learned a little Serbian.

Hi everyone.

Here's my report (ramblings!)

Started off the week by travelling down to Gatwick on the Saturday afternoon and booked into the Gatwick Europa hotel. Although the hotel was a bit shabby in a few areas it was a nice start to the holiday as we didnt have to get up early and travel down all in the one go. The hotel had a pool, jacuzzi, gym etc. All pretty good for the price of £130 for two twin rooms, parking for 8 days and transfer by bus. (as opposed to a cramped mini bus that you get from some hotels)

Got to the airport about 3 on the Sunday morning to meet some friends that had travelled up from Eastbourne to join us for the week.

Flight was fine, even though the film they showed was pretty boring (The Invincibles. Due to a good tail wind it only took about 2 hours, twenty minutes.

A nice journey up on the coach took us 2 and a half hours and we were given loads of information from our crystal rep.

As was mentioned in another thread, we wearn't very impressed with being asked to disembark in the carpark and trek upto our hotel (Club A) This wasnt an easy task with suitcases, ski bags and boot bags!!

Hotel......
Club A....... Very clean and tidy, we had a triple room as my son was joining us for his first skiing holiday and the room was more than adequate for us. The food was excellent and there was loads of choice for both breakfast and evening dinner.
Only two (very minor) gripes... Damn it was hot!!! We didnt have the radiator on in our room at all for the week and it was so hot. (Rather that than it being freezing cold!) and they only had bottled beer at 140 dinars each. I was quite happy with this until we have a drink in the grand where we had draught beer for the same price, but twice the amount.

We had a couple of lunches in the grand hotel and the pizzas were excellent. The most expensive being only 500dinars.

Skiing........
Monday and Tuesday wasn't a particuly enjoyable experiance with regards to the piste conditions. The whole resort was in desperate need of snow as there were bare and icy patches everywhere. It was a great relief to pull back the bedroom curtains on Wedneday morning to see a huge dump of snow had occured overnight. I'd had a text from a mate saying that 5cm was forcast for the Wednesday. Well more than double that must have come down in the early hours of the morning. It then skied on and off for the rest of the week including another largeish dump on Wednesday night.

The Fog made it very "intresting" at times especially when we travelled up to the top on the "Pancic Express" chairlift on Wednesday morning. You couldnt see the Chair in front of you! Myself and a friend decided to take it slow and as there wasnt anyone else around at the time that we could follow, we took the run down under the lift. Well... We think it was a run, but it soon became apparent that it hadnt been pisted and it was great fun hacking down on our blades through a foot of powder!!!!

Favorite run for me?..... The Black number 6. Great snow conditions later in the week although it wouldnt be a black in many resorts i've been to in the past.

Ski School......
Three of our group booked into ski school and every single one of them had a great time.

My son was the only beginnner out of the three and actually had two instructors. Marco for the first two hours and Dragona for the second two hours.

He went from total beginnner to being a confident parellell skier in only six days!

At the Ski School party on Saturday evening it was great for him to get an "A" on his diploma!

The others went into intermediates classes and they said that the instructers improved thier techneques immensly as well as giving them good knowledge and stories of the local area, geography etc. (Alex was one of the instructers, cant remember the name of the other)

Apres Ski....
As we were away as a family we didnt do the pub/club scene so cant comment on that side of things, but we did go out on the Skidoo evening. An evening that turned out to be rather intresting. We spent nearly an hour whizzing around the locals mountains in near blizzard conditions with my son on the skidoo with me. My Mrs and her mate were on the skidoo two in front of me and a we were nearing the end it very nearly ended up very nasty.

As we were slowing down to go over and few humps and through some tress, she slowed her skiddoo to get through the pisted section and she managed to get her front ski over the edge of a ditch and managed to roll the skidoo into the ditch and into a tree with the skidoo trapped on top of them. Everyone hit the stop switch on thier skidoos and myself a friend managed to pull it off of them whilst they scrambled out.

Luckilly they were both ok (apart from a few brusies) and after the skiddoo was pulled out they carreid on til the end.

We were booked to go on the Quiz night but the Mrs went down with Flu so we gave that a miss, but the rest of the group went and had a great time, and came second.

Sledging was also fun in the evening.

To sum everything up, we all had a great time, and wouldnt hesitate to go back again.

Just got back - Hvala Kopaonik

Just got back from Kop last night, I have to say this is a fantastic resort. Thanks to all the people of Kop and Serbia in general for your hospitality and for all the advice prior to our trip.

We stayed at the Hotel Club A which was OK, the Grand seems to be the most up market hotel in the resort though and serves a good pint

Special thanks to Filip Kostic for teaching my wife to ski.

Cheers

Returned 15/01/2007.journey to Kop was a bit scarey, coach couldnt get any grip on road,we arrived at resort feeling OK , airport is straight forwards but wait to get to Kop to change currency.Stayed at Club A,basic but comfortable, kind of nice to switch off from UK comforts.Food OK,fun just to see what food has been laid on,we ate out some nights, restaurant next to police station is best, sking was great fun but if you are hiring make sure you get best fit boots u can,had to change mine 3 times.Reps are great espacially Ivan.Go to quiz night as listening to a Serbian rep pronounce some English words is hilarious.Drink local beers as imports not as cheap , came back home with money! thats a 1st.To sum up,have never been to such a beautiful place ,lovely reps and ski instructors ,cheap and comfortable, but most of all is not too commercial yet and this is the real bonus of Kop.DO NOT TELL TOO MANY PEOPLE ABOUT THIS SECRET GEM.

As promised I'll be posting some photos as soon as i've got them off the laptop (hopefully in the next few days)

Ok so after a week boarding every day and afternoon, staying next door to a Serbian couple who argued for 2 hours every night and then had very nosy sex till 4.00am in the morning I'm back in work very knackered!

Snow - Quite a nice amount when we got there and most of the slopes were open. Lovely blue skies for 4 days and sunshine. Was getting patchy in places by Thursday but luckily it snowed all day and evening making saturday riding a joy.

Reps - Very helpful indeed. Friendly people with good English.

Instructors - We had a guy called Jug who was very good and on the first day we were all up the mountain and by the last day on a black run. Also a good laugh and went drinking with us on the last night.

Drink - In shops bottles of beer could be as cheap as 40 dinar (35p) and depending on the brand could be up to 200 dinar in some hotels / bars etc.
SOS bar and Exit bar were good prices.

Night-life - Didn't really get going till quite late. Some dances in some of the bars.

Food - We stayed in the Club A and it was half board. A good variety at breakfast and tea. LOTS of meat. For veggie's it was ok but they didn't really understand the concept and non of the food was labelled. For example some veggie stuff was covered by meat which as my veggie wife pointed out was a bit silly.

Currency - Take euros as you can use these on some activities and can be used to change to dinars in the airport or in the resort. There are 2 (i think) ATM machines in the resort.

Language - Learn some basic words. It's not really needed but really helps we found. Alot of the waiters etc commented how it was pleasing to hear that we were trying there language out etc.

Other activities - Ski-doo (snow mobile) 60 euros for an hour up the mountain. Simply brilliant if you have never done it before and we got to see a lovely sunset. Those things don't half shift as well! There was an ice skating rink as well. The reps also organised a quiz night and a bar crawl type thing.

Best ski on Kopaonik is during February. Every year at this time, there is a lot of snow and sun! Most of visiters at this time are young, so there are a lot of partys and good spirit!

Come to Kompaonik in February!

Take Euros or Sterling only. THEY DONT CHANGE TRAVELLERS CHEQUES ANYWHERE IN THE RESORT, nearest town is 2 hours plus away.

Ski instrutors, enthusiastic and friendly! But make sure you are in the correct ability group from the start or you'll get cold waiting!

Hi just returned from Kop, my first full weeks skiing holliday. Anyone flying out there will have a great time . We were lucky that there was a godfall of snow on our second night there which allowed more slopes to be opened.

To help anyone flying out to kop i will give you a few suggestions to help you on your stay, DONT take travelers cheques to kop as they wont change them there, you need either cash or your bank card. The ski school is great and the instructors speek good English, but make sure that on day one that you get put in the right group as if you can ski a little as i could they will start you off as a complete begginer as happened to me, but thanks to the instructors a better group on the second day and then some great skiing. We stayed in the Konaci apartments rooms were good and clean, but the disco at 2.00 in the morning can be a problem after a days skiing, so if you have children as we did try to get a room away from the disco.

To sum up we all had a great time and would go back again, food and drink very cheap try the local beer MB

Have just got back from Kop.

Had a fantastic time, plenty of snow now and all bar a couple of black runs open. there are the odd icy patches but generally good and they are anticipating more snow. We were all complete beginers and managed to ski.

Stayed in the Konaci appts, clean and basic but all you need. The appts on the side of the cafe royal are very noisy due to the bass on the disco, we were moved to other side and no further noise problems.

Food and drink cheap, would recommend the trattoria Kosava which is near to the Hotal Grand (not in main Konaci square), fantastic food, frienldy staff and cheap, meal for 8 with 2l wine and other drinks £70!

Slopes were quite busy for a couple of days during past week but very quiet on 6th.

Hope this helps and have fun!
